Our Community Guidelines

Statement for BBBC

The Bad Bitch Book Club aims to be an inclusive space for all identities that uplifts and amplifies voices of the most marginalized. We are committed to reading and highlighting works by women authors, especially authors of color, queer authors, and authors with disabilities. In our spaces, we want to recognize the impacts of oppression on people with non-dominant identities and ensure that we are learning, growing, and challenging each other.

Why - Community Agreements create a space that is inclusive and accepting while encouraging learning and changed behavior. They ensure that oppressive and racist behavior has no place and is called out.

General Book Club Agreements

As a book club, it is important to create a space that is inclusive and accepting, while encouraging learning and changed behavior. The Bad Bitch Book Club has created Community Agreements to ensure that oppressive and racist behavior is not encouraged and actively called out, with the hope to create an inclusive space that promotes growth and learning.

We encourage:

  • The amplification of works written by women, women of color, LGBTQIA+ women, and women with disabilities.

  • A focus on intersectionality to highlight the ways that our social identities intersect to create varying experiences of discrimination, oppression and privilege.

  • Holding ourselves and other members accountable, leaning into our discomfort and owning our own learning.

  • An environment where making mistakes will happen but taking responsibility for negative impact is required.

We believe that:

  • Black Lives Matter

  • Trans Women are Women

  • Reproductive Rights are Human Rights

  • Disability Justice recognizes the intersectionality or white supremacy, colonial capitalism, gendered oppression, and ableism.

  • Building critical consciousness is essential to our ability to take action against oppression

The BBBC Guidelines were thoughtfully developed under advisement from Intersectional Impact Consulting.
